About Mriganka De
Mr. Mriganka De is a Consultant ENT Head & Neck Surgeon with over 16 years of consultant experience, based at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) and Priory Hospital, Birmingham. UHB is the largest NHS trust in the UK, and Mr. De leads the ENT Head & Neck/Thyroid Service, the largest ENT department in the country.
He provides personalized, evidence-based care for both general ENT concerns and complex head and neck conditions, including malignant and benign diseases. He also provides all his patients a personalised service supported by the best available evidence-based treatments.
Mr. De has one of the largest practices for minimally invasive head and neck surgery in the UK, specializing in Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) and Transoral Laser Microsurgery (TLM).
He offers outpatient and inpatient services for general ENT and specialist treatment for head & neck/thyroid problems at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital as well as leading Birmingham head and neck robotic surgery programme and providing complex surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Mr De completed his basic surgical training in South Wales and higher surgical training in ENT and head / neck surgery in the West Midlands, followed by a Travelling Fellowship (Head & Neck Surgery) in Amsterdam and a Clinical Fellowship (Head & Neck Oncology) in Glasgow. Previously he has practiced at Royal Derby Hospital for over 7 years, before coming back to Birmingham in 2016.
He is currently the clinical service lead for the department for ENT head and neck surgery at university hospitals NHS Birmingham foundation trust. The department is the largest ENT head and neck surgery department in the UK with 33 full-time ENT consultants. He provides a collaborative approach for all his colleagues and carefully manages the complex needs of the department.
As an associate medical director for cooperate governance university hospitals in Birmingham Mriganka De is responsible for multiple quality improvement projects. He has shown his leadership skills in driving some of the complex quality improvement projects with ability and inspiring his colleagues.
Mr De has extensive experience in academics research and education. He has published over 40 peer reviewed publications, over 20 articles in peer reviewed journals, 10 book chapters and over 100 national/ international presentations. In addition he has been an invited lecturer in more than 20 national and international conferences. He is the founder and director of both the minimally invasive head and neck surgery course and faculty of multiple national and international conferences.
As the Associate Medical Director for Corporate Governance, he leads several trust-wide projects, demonstrating exceptional leadership in managing complex, multi-specialty initiatives through collaboration, dedication, and innovation.

As a tertiary level consultant, Mr. De is responsible for the clinical and surgical training of higher surgical trainees in all aspects of specialist head and neck surgery and general ENT.
Mriganka De has a large ENT head and neck practice including routine ENT work such as:
- hearing loss
- tinnitus
- vertigo/dizziness
- nasal and sinus problems
- complex head, neck and thyroid work
All as a one-stop service, Mr De can provide a comprehensive ENT service including:
- audiograms (hearing testing)
- nasal endoscopy (telescopic examination in the throat)
- fine needle aspiration cytology
